TOKYO — Fumio Kishida on Wednesday won the presidential election of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to succeed Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

Kishida, former Japanese foreign minister, secured 257 votes in a runoff to win over his contender Taro Kono who received 170 votes. (Japan-LDP Presidential Election)
