URUMQI, April 22 (Xinhua) — Looking at the Taklimakan Desert from above, one would be surprised to see a square zone covered with lush, vibrant vegetation standing right in the heart of the arid wasteland.

The awe-inspiring yet isolated oasis is the Tazhong botanical garden in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is also the home of Chang Qing, its designer, for some 250 days of the year.
