MANILA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — The Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) reported 22,820 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic began, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,161,892.

The DOH also reported 61 coronavirus-related deaths, raising the country’s death toll to 34,733.

Thursday’s caseload surpassed the previous record detected
