KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Xinhua) — Malaysia reported 1,697 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Monday, bringing the national total to 4,479,809, according to the Health Ministry.

There are no new imported cases, with all 1,697 fresh infections being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Five more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,620.
