RAKHINE, Myanmar – Locals in Rakhine State have opposed the junta’s occupation of religious buildings as Myanmar army reinforcements arrive and set up posts in monasteries and mosques in the northern townships Buthidaung, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, and Minbya.

Soldiers have reportedly stayed in monasteries in at least four villages and the historic 31 Realms pagoda and mosques in three communities in Buthidaung.
