JAKARTA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — Volcanic ashes were thrown as high as 1 km above the peak of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia when it erupted on Monday, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.
The eruption occurred at 08:42 a.m. local time and lasted three minutes 28 seconds, with the wind carrying thick gray ashes to the southwest, said Mount Anak Krakatau monitoring post officer
