A huge cyclone last night descended on the eastern coast of India, sending half a million people into emergency shelters and leaving millions more fearing for their lives and livelihoods. At least seven people were killed and 18 fishermen were reported missing. Cyclone Phailin, a category 4 storm, finally made landfall in the state of Orissa sometime after 8pm, slightly easing in strength but threatening up to 10 million people.
