China’s Wheat, Rice Import Demand to Ebb

BEIJING—China’s appetite for the world’s supplies of wheat and rice may be ebbing, according to a new forecast, as its growing ability to feed its people reduces its dependence on imports. China, the world’s largest consumer of the staples, will be able to sustain a 98% self-sufficiency rate over the next 10 years, according to a report jointly issued by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
