TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) — Tokyo stocks plunged Monday, with selling fueled by uncertainty over the world economy amid the escalating geopolitical risks in the Middle East.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 656.96 points, or 2.03 percent, from Friday to close the day at 31,659.03.
