DHAKA, Bangladesh – Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam was imprisoned for one month for disparaging an Appellate Division judge.

A four-member Appellate Division panel led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has ordered Alam’s arrest.

On Thursday, the ruling was issued in response to a contempt of court petition filed against Jahangir. In addition, he was fined Tk 100,000 by the court.
