YANGON, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Heavy rainfall hit Bago Region of southern Myanmar on Sunday, displacing thousands and disrupting rail traffic, local authorities said on Monday.

U Thaung Shwe, director of Bago Region’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, told Xinhua on Monday that a total of 14,304 people were taking shelters in 36 relief camps because of the floods.
