KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — Malaysia reported 2,226 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Thursday, bringing the national total to 4,799,663, according to the health ministry.

There were two new imported cases, with 2,224 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Another eight deaths were reported, pushing the death toll to 36,270.
