SYDNEY, Australia – Last week, Australia’s foreign minister demanded the “prompt release” of economist Sean Turnell, who Myanmar’s military junta has held for the past year.

Last February, Mr. Turnell, an Australian economics professor, was imprisoned just days after a military coup while serving as an adviser to civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
