2,000 Pakistanis rally against US drones

Around 2,000 Pakistanis demonstrated outside the country's parliament Friday to demand an end to US drone strikes, claiming they kill more innocent civilians than Taliban and Al-Qaeda leaders. Cricket hero turned politician Imran Khan led the Islamabad rally, attended mostly by members of his Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice) party, which is gearing up to contest its first general election. A few dozen tribesmen from Waziristan, where most of the drone strikes are concentrated, also attended the peaceful demonstration. Beijing censors tighten restrictions on dissenting bloggers

The Chinese government has stepped up its efforts to crush online dissent by bringing in tougher controls of social media and instant messaging tools in the clearest sign yet that services such as Weibo, which are similar to the banned Twitter, are angering authorities. The crackdown took place amid national soul-searching after the death last week of a toddler, Yue Yue, who was struck by a truck and lay bleeding in the road witnessed by passers-by who failed to go to her assistance. Weibo helped to turn the incident into a national debate, just as a high-speed train crash in July turned...
